About

Hi. My name is Chris Holzworth, something you may have divined from the big “Chris Holzworth” header up top there. This here is my personal blog: one part portfolio, one part resume, and a dash of whatever the hell else I feel inclined to post.

Writing has always been my forte, ever since the third grade, when I was inspired to write a piece of fantasy fiction after playing Final Fantasy VI. Trouble was I never quite knew where to direct my interest in writing. That all changed in 2003. While working for RPGFan I was given the opportunity to attend E3 2003. During the event, I ran throughout the L.A. Convention Center conducting interviews and attending conferences. After each interview and conference I would rush back to a chaotic media room where I was forced to sit Indian-style against a corner while I hammered out the day’s news stories. By the end of the first day, a feeling of “rightness” settled over me. And after three fourteen-hour days of running back and forth reporting on video games, I knew I wanted to be a journalist.

I set out to accomplish this goal through two means: by cultivating formal, academic training in journalism through education and gaining hands-on experience by writing for any website that would have me. After completing two years at a local community college, I transferred to Rutgers University, majoring in Journalism & Media Studies as well as English. During all this I have been writing for several enthusiast websites, the most notable of which are RPGFan, The Wiire, Geekadelphia, Kombo, and Technabob. I also started a few websites of my own, including the now defunct RPG blog Vanish/Doom and, more recently, the communal gaming blog new game +.

I intend to strike out west to San Francisco, the heart of video game reporting, after I graduate from Rutgers. In the meanwhile, I continue to freelance online and contribute to the Philadelphia/New York video game reporting scene.
